What is the Canada Implant Residency?

The Canada Implant Residency is a 9-month, hands-on dental implant training program delivered across 6 modules. Lectures and workshops are held at the Dentsply Sirona Academy in Mississauga; live patient surgery takes place at Barton Dental Centre in Hamilton. Every participant personally places 5 dental implants and assists on 5 more — all on real patients provided entirely by the program. The next cohort starts December 2026.

This program is designed for general dentists who want to add implant placement and restoration to their practice. The course begins with fundamentals and mannequin workshops before advancing to live patient surgery, so no prior implant experience is required. It is also valuable for dentists who have placed implants before but want structured mentorship and higher surgical volume.

The residency consists of 6 modules spread over 9 months. Each module combines clinical lectures, hands-on workshops, and live patient cases. This structure allows you to learn a concept, practice it in a supervised clinical setting, and implement it in your own practice between sessions — building real confidence progressively rather than compressing everything into a single intensive week.

Every participant is guaranteed a minimum of 5 live implant placements and assists on 5 additional live implant placements. This is 10 hands-on surgical experiences in total, all on real patients. This is a defined floor written into the program structure, not a range or an estimate.

Yes. The HTDS Canada Implant Residency provides all clinical patients for you — no sourcing required. Every participant personally places 5 implants and assists on 5 more, with lectures in Mississauga and live surgery in Hamilton, Ontario.

No. All patients for the clinical component are provided entirely by the program. You also have the option to bring up to 2 of your own patients if continuity of care is a priority — but it is never required.

The Canada Implant Residency uses the Astra Tech implant system. The surgical principles and prosthetic workflows you learn are transferable to any implant system you choose to use in your own practice.

The residency provides hands-on training in both digital and conventional workflows, including Simplant treatment planning software, Cerec digital workflows, and surgical guide fabrication. You will leave with experience in both methodologies so you can adapt to any practice setup.

The curriculum covers the full implant workflow from CBCT-based treatment planning through final prosthetic restoration. This includes flap design, site preparation, bone grafting, implant placement, surgical guide use, and restorative integration. Advanced procedures such as sinus lifts and ridge augmentation are introduced in later modules.

Yes. The Canada Implant Residency awards 140 Category 2 CE credits, fulfilling RCDSO requirements for Ontario dentists who want to place and restore dental implants. The full credit count is confirmed upfront — not estimated after completion.

Participants earn 140 Category 2 CE credits upon completion. This is the highest credit count of any implant residency currently available in Ontario, and the full amount required by the RCDSO for dentists adding implant services to their practice.

Yes. Graduates receive an ICOI Fellowship Certificate upon completion — one of the most recognized credentials in implant dentistry internationally, along with 140 Category 2 CE credits fulfilling RCDSO requirements for placing and restoring implants in Ontario.

The ICOI (International Congress of Oral Implantologists) Fellowship is one of the most widely recognized credentials in implant dentistry. It signals to patients and peers that you have met a defined standard of implant education and clinical training. It is awarded to graduates of the Canada Implant Residency upon completion of the program.

Tuition is $15,900 CAD + HST and covers everything: all clinical patients, Astra Tech implant fixtures, bone graft materials, membranes, lab fees, surgical kits, and a dedicated one-day staff training workshop for up to 3 of your team members. There are no add-on fees at the clinical stage.

Yes. Flexible payment plans are available for the Canada Implant Residency. Contact the HTDS team directly at 289-242-0776 or info@hightechdentalseminars.com to discuss a plan that works for your situation.

Yes. A dedicated one-day training workshop for up to 3 of your staff members is included at no additional cost. This ensures your entire team — assistants, hygienists, or coordinators — is prepared to support implant services when you return to practice.

The residency is led by Dr. Ahmed Ameen Al-Obaidi (BDS, MFDS, DDS, ABOI & ICOI Diplomate), an RCDSO-licensed Ontario implant dentist and Clinical Site Director at Jacksonville University. Dr. Ameen is actively practicing in Ontario.. Supporting faculty include Dr. Quyen Su (Periodontist) and Dr. Alia El-Mowafy (Anesthesiologist), and Dr. Ali Al-Rubayee (General Dentist).

Yes. Graduates receive ongoing post-course mentorship directly from Dr. Ameen — not a forum, not a video library, not a ticketing system. Direct access to an RCDSO-licensed implant dentist who practices in the same regulatory environment as you, available when your first independent cases are underway and clinical judgment matters most.

Graduates receive a certificate of completion, 140 Category 2 RCDSO CE credits, and direct post-course mentorship from Dr. Ameen. You leave the program having placed implants on real patients, with the surgical confidence and clinical documentation needed to begin offering implant services in your own practice immediately.

Lectures and clinical workshops are held at the Dentsply Sirona Academy in Mississauga, Ontario — a professionally accredited dental training facility. Live patient surgeries take place at Barton Dental Centre, located at 1130 Barton Street East, Hamilton, Ontario.
